Table of Contents:

The Key Differences:

The sightseeing passes and cards presented here differ significantly in some aspects. Their aim is to make sightseeing easier for you and to save some time and money. All the products presented here offer a digital version. You can simply use your smartphone to gain free or discounted entry to various attractions.

However, the products differ when it comes to admission. The Vienna Pass and the Flexi Pass offer free admission to the included attractions. With the Vienna Pass you can visit many attractions within 1 to 6 days. With the Flexi Pass you can only visit 2 to max. 5 attractions within 60 days.

The Vienna City Card and the Vienna Welcome Card only offer reduced admission to the attractions, but are considerably cheaper. These two cards also include free public transportation in Vienna. The Vienna Pass and the Flexi Pass allow you to book public transportation as an option, but this makes it complicated because you do not receive a digital pass.

The Vienna City Card is the official sightseeing card for tourists and essentially a short-term ticket for the public transportation in the whole city area with numerous discounts for selected attractions, shops, restaurants, cafes, concerts and other things. The public transportation in Vienna can be used for up to 7 days, depending on the variant you choose. The discounts are available for 7 days for all purchasable variants. The Vienna Flexi Pass is an interesting alternative to the tight time-limited sightseeing passes. It is some kind of an extendable and flexible combination ticket. With the different available versions, you do not choose the validity duration, but the number of attractions which you want to visit. You can choose between 2, 3, 4 or 5 included attractions. The Flexi Pass is valid for 60 days from the first time you enter one of the attractions. Some of the included highlights are the hop-on hop-off bus from Vienna Sightseeing Tours, the Schönbrunn Palace (Grand Tour), the Spanish Riding School, the Albertina, the Giant Ferris Wheel and Madame Tussauds. Find out more in the following review and price comparison.

  •   incl. Schönbrunn Palace
  •   incl. Sisi Museum Hofburg
  •   incl. Albertina
  •   incl. Spanish Riding School
  •   incl. hop-on hop-off bus tour

Flexible ! If you want to visit at least one sight and ride on a hop-on hop-off bus in Vienna, then the Flexi Pass could be an interesting option. For most of the included sights, you do not need a reservation. You can simply show your pass at the entrance. A lot of the important attractions in Vienna are part of the offer. Unfortunately, the time frame for the free cancellation option is a bit short with 7 days. More information at:   Vienna Flexi Pass*

The Vienna Welcome Card has a similar design to the Vienna City Card. The 4 versions 24h, 48h, 72h and 7 days include free use of public transportation in Vienna and discounts for the attractions. The inexpensive To Go Card includes only the part with reduced admission to the sights and some discounts for restaurants and activities for 72 hours.
For all offers the discounts are only valid for the specified period of validity and not for 7 days like with the City Card products. On the other hand, the Welcome Card is a bit cheaper and offers a special feature in the add-ons. The hop-on hop-off add-on with Big Bus can be booked with all variants and is not only valid for 24 hours, but up to 72 hours*, depending on the validity period. If you book the hop-on hop-off add-on with the 7 days card, then you can also use the bus for 72 hours. The airport transfer is also available as an add-on. It includes a trip from the airport and a return trip during the validity period.
The discounts are available for around 60 attractions. These include the most important sights in Vienna such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Sisi Museum and the Giant Ferris Wheel. You can buy most of the tickets on site and some tickets are available for online booking. With the Vienna Welcome Card, you receive a discount ranging from 5% to a maximum of 50%.

  •   approx. 60 attractions
  •   incl. public transportation
  •   incl. Schönbrunn Palace
  •   incl. Sisi Museum Hofburg
  •   incl. Albertina
  •   incl. Spanish Riding School
  •   up to 72hrs hop-on hop-off add-on
  •   without free entrances
  •   no free cancellation

Price Tip ! The Vienna Welcome Card is a possible alternative to the Vienna City Card. Both cards offer reduced prices for a lot of attractions and free use of public transportation in Vienna. The Welcome Card is available at a lower price and has a similar offer. An advantage is the validity period of the hop-on hop-off add-on. This allows you to use the Big Bus service for up to 72 hours, depending on the selected version. One disadvantage compared to the City Card is the limited validity period as a discount card. With the City Card, you can use the discount function for 7 days with all variants and not, as with the Welcome Card, only for the selected period of validity. You can find more details at: Vienna Welcome Card*

Where can I get the best price?

The various versions can be ordered online at some travel agencies as well as directly from the providers. Even if the standard prices are in the most cases equal there are sometimes promotional prices and differences in the terms, such as the cancellation policy. Here you will find my ordering info & tips.

Straight to the tips for:
Vienna Pass
Vienna City Card
Flexi Pass
Vienna Welcome Card

If you order the Vienna Pass directly at the provider you will have the advantage of a money back guarantee. That means, you may reclaim the purchasing price for unactivated passes within a certain time period. At the provider you may also choose the mobile Vienna Pass and store it on your smartphone, which means that you have no costs for delivery or additional effort with the pick-up. Furthermore, you will often have the opportunity to receive an additional discount on the standard price at the provider website. Click at the following link and learn how to use promo codes and online sale offers to receive up to 10% discount. Order directly at:   Vienna Pass*

Unfortunately, the Vienna City Card is only offered by the provider without a cancellation possibility. You can buy it directly from the tourist info at the Vienna Airport or in the city center. If you order the card online, you can avoid the extra time and simply save up to 10%. Just use a discount code from city-walks.info when you order the city card online. The following web page shows the latest discount codes and some buying info. When you make your order you can choose between the -Print at Home- or the -Mobile App- option:    Vienna City Card*

The Vienna Flexi Pass is, like the other products in this review, available for online order at the provider. All orders there have a free cancellation option within 7 days. If you are not ordering tickets for public transport, you have the option to select digital delivery when placing your order. In this case you will receive your pass by e-mail quickly and without no additional costs. Otherwise, you can pick up your pass at the Vienna Sightseeing Service Center* in the center of Vienna. Order directly at:   Vienna Flexi Pass*

The Vienna Welcome Card is an online-only product. It is no option to print out a valid card. You have to install an app to use the card. The product is therefore mainly available online. Unfortunately, it is usually not possible to cancel the purchase. You can buy the Welcome Card directly at the provider or from various ticket portals. The prices are normally the same, but a comparison can still be worthwhile. At city-walks you will often get a discount code for the Tiqets ticket portal and therefore possibly a lower price than directly at the provider:    Vienna Welcome Card*

Info about Airport Transfer

The City Card and the Welcome Card offers some discounts on various transport options to the airport. Both cards offer for an extra charge the airport transfer add-on. With the City Card you may then use the comfortable City Airport Train CAT or one of the Vienna Airport Lines buses within 7 days of the card activation. With the Welcome Card add-on you can use the City Airport Train CAT only within the validity period of your card.

Unfortunately, no airport transfer is included or available as an add-on with the other city passes. For an overview of the different airport transfer options in Vienna, please visit the following webpage.
